| Saturday 29th April 2006 | All quiet in the studio this morning coz Andrew had a hangover, John wasn't in the studio and Nev had no one except me to talk to, and I can ignore him easily. Firstly we got Peter Collins from Nani Diesel on the phone, and had a chat about the noise on stinkboats, and how this can be reduced. We then decided to wake up Robyn Kydd from Oceantalk in Singapore to find out what a sunrise is like there - no actually it was to talk about RADAR, and its benefits on both motor boats, and yachts. Then John Sturrock got on the phone from Sydney Amateurs Sailing Club and talked about his interest in promoting and encouraging sailing for younger people. Bill Gale was also at the Amateurs where there is a regatta today for Gaff Rigs and Bermuda's, and this can be watched on a ferry leaving from Mosmans Wharf at noon today - what a great way to pass the afternoon. Have a great one!!! |
| Saturday 22nd April 2006 | Lord help me, having to write this with a hangover is hard work. This mornings show started with John Sturrock giving us a rundown on the Brisbane to Gladstone race which he said was slow, and tough as he had to endure the beautiful Queensland weather. Andrew and Nev Whittey were then having a chat with Peter McCorquadale about the Short Handed Sailing Association - with Andrew giving his normal grief. The channel 9 coverage of the regatta on the 15th April then came up, with Andrew saying he thought it was pathetic, and that if we wanted to gain TV coverage during the day (instead of at 3am or some such tme) they had better improve the broadcast. Nev then answered a couple of emails, and Nathan Outridge who is connected to Lewmar had a chat with us about the sailing he's involved in worldwide. Andrew has once again given us a quiz, and if you put your answer on info@sailorsradio.com a prize from Lewmar will be given. Andrew was then finally (he's a dificult man to catch) having a chat with Andrew Brody from Raymarine about autopilot options. Back to bed for me now - have a great week, and a great ANZAC day, Sal |
| Saturday 15th April 2006 | Hi all, and Happy Holidays. On todays show we first of all had a chat with John Sturrock who was just south of Gladstone in the Brisbane to Gladstone race. Then we had the pleasure of chatting with Peter Goldsworthy from Getaway Sailing - where they do sailing training and boat chartering. We then disturbed Katie Spithills holiday to congratulate her on her win in the womens match racing championships in New Zealand, which led us to enquire about the competition for this week. Its an easy one, if you go to our competition link you can find out the question, then to enter go to info@sailorsradio.com. There's also another competition that Getaway Sailing has provided which includes five learn to sail intro packages for the first five people to email us at info@sailorsradio.com. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the fact that the (wonderful?) Nev Whittey was also present with the knowledgeable comments he has to make about sailing, and the sailing world. Have a great weekend. |
| Saturday 8th April 2006 | This mornings show started with a lively discussion between Andrew, Nev Whittey and John Sturrock about the possiblity of kit boats to reduce the cost of boating. This was followed by a chat with Sean Langman on the pros and cons of building or restoring a boat, then Bruce Roberts talked about the establishment of Bruce Roberts International, and their involvement in Kit Boats. Chris Stone from the CYC then discussed the Southport race which, as predicted was a big boat race and won by Skandia. This was followed by a discussion about women on the water. Lastly, but by no means leastly, we had a chat with Dennis Doyle from CYC also, about computers, and getting them on the boats, and connected. The advantages of HF was explained also. The competition this week was won by James Palmowski, and the prize was a Lewmar Titan Winch Handle Set. |
| Saturday 1st April 2006 | Andrew, John Sturrock and Nev Whittey were discussing why you can't get boats to point higher, and how you can get them to do this. Then they had a chat with Justine Kirkjian, who was down at the CYC and about to start in the 384nm race to Southport. Katie Spithill then had a chat with us about last weeks quiz, which was won by Stewart Menday who answered that "Fagged Out" means when the rope is frayed then announced next weeks quiz which can be found on this site, and the prize from Lewmar. Andrew then had a chat with James Skeene from Club Marine regarding Insurance for your boat, and what they can do if the cost of fixing your boat is greater than the insured value of it, but you don't want to write it off. |
| Saturday 25th March 2006 | Andrew had a chat with Sgt. Andrew Ibell of the Cairns Water Police about what to do when warned of a possible cyclone, and the best place to put your boat, and of the damges to boats, marina's and Nav Aids after Cyclone Larry. This was followed by a chat with Robert Lucas, who was the winner of last weeks competition, and is now sitting off the Greeks Islands (bastard). John Sturrock, Nev Wittey and Andrew then had a long chat with Grant Warrington and his stop start approach to the Volvo around the World, and his racing of the Southport race which when Nev started doing it, took five days, and how Grant and his team on their Maxi Skandia are expecting to do it in around 20 hours. Finally guys, don't forget to enter this weeks quiz for your chance to win a Lewmar Titan winch handle set from Lewmar. Go to the competition link to enter. |
